A number of UK online shops have announced incredible Christmas trade. In particular, Boxing Day is reported as being the busiest day in 2010 for selling online with the number of visits to websites 12% higher than in November, according to Experian Hitwise. A survey carried out by the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) has revealed that consumers favour buying online opposed to in store due to the soaring fuel prices. Ten years ago, the average price for petrol was just 76.9p per litre. Now, the average price for petrol has soared over the 129.9p mark. As a result of this, consumers are taking the car out of the equation when shopping, and instead favouring online shopping to keep costs down. There is a lot of talk about energy efficiency and there has been for some time. Despite this, you never hear much about how a website can be more energy efficient. Recently Microsoft did a study that showed IE9 is the most energy efficient web browser. Based on several tests, IE9 consumes only less power from computer’s battery.
