Consumers Favour Buying Online Opposed to In Store
Article last updated on 02 May 2011
A survey carried out by the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) has revealed that consumers favour buying online opposed to in store due to the soaring fuel prices.
Ten years ago, the average price for petrol was just 76.9p per litre. Now, the average price for petrol has soared over the 129.9p mark. As a result of this, consumers are taking the car out of the equation when shopping, and instead favouring online shopping to keep costs down. A Financial Times survey revealed that 52% of shoppers in the UK will be cutting back on the amount of shopping trips they take to the high street and out of town centres if the cost of filling a tank of fuel continues to rise as it has in recent months.
Close to 33% of respondents also said that online shopping would be their first port of call in the fight against the swelling costs of running a car for the same purpose.
