Make Your Website More Energy Efficient
Article last updated on 05 July 2011
There is a lot of talk about energy efficiency and there has been for some time. Despite this, you never hear much about how a website can be more energy efficient.
Recently Microsoft did a study that showed IE9 is the most energy efficient web browser. Based on several tests, IE9 consumes only less power from computer’s battery. They revealed that Firefox 4 came in a close second in every test; whilst Opera 11 was the least energy-efficient browser in most tests.
It is not just Microsoft testing energy efficiency, there are others conducting the same and similar tests. Here at Ape Web, we already know some of the principals of how to design and build a website that uses less energy. Whilst many of the concepts are nothing new, most web design companies probably wouldn’t even know the difference the choice of colours make to how energy efficient your website can be.
It is a bit harder to test how efficient a website is compared with the tests Microsoft ran, as to do so we need to measure both the energy used by the website and the computer displaying the web pages. The study of how much energy a website should be of an interest to all businesses.
In principal, the less energy a website uses the less hosting and bandwidth charges will apply. So how can we save energy? Here at Ape Web, we can advise you on a long list of ways in which to make your website use less energy, none of which will actually require major changes. Your business will save money making these changes and your websites will run more smoothly. The time it takes for your website to load will dramatically decrease too.
So why not give it a try? Ask our team to take a look at your website today and see what we can do to save you money and make your website work better.
